Where is your office located? What are your hours?

My office is located on the Upper Westside of Manhattan at 144 West 86 Street (between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues), Suite 1A. I have morning, afternoon, and evening hours available Monday through Friday.

Do you take insurance?

I am not a participating provider for any insurance companies but if you have an out-of-network benefit, I am happy to help with submitting a claim to your insurance company.

If you do not have insurance, or are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Please see this notice for details.

Sessions are usually either 45 or 60 minutes long depending on the client’s preference. Sessions for Discernment Counseling are 90 minutes in length and those involving mediation range from 1 to 2 hours.

How do I set up an initial appointment?

You can either phone me at (212) 265-3594 or email me at bbermanpsych@gmail.com to set up an appointment.

What services do you provide?

I provide individual, couples, sex, and family therapy, intimate partner mediation, and divorce supportive services including therapeutic divorce mediation, divorce coaching, child-inclusive mediation, and parenting coordination.

What is your professional experience?

I have been practicing as a psychologist for over 35 years. Whereas most of this experience has been in private practice, I have also worked in a variety of other settings including psychiatric inpatient and day treatment programs, mental health clinics, and a child development center. This experience has involved providing evaluation and treatment as well as supervising the clinical work of graduate students, staff, and mental health professionals training to be psychoanalysts, psychodynamic psychotherapists, couples therapists, and sex therapists. It also has familiarized me with the range of problems people confront throughout their lives as well as the diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences of different racial and ethnic groups and nationalities.

How long does therapy last?

I aim to have the therapy achieve results as quickly as possible. The length of therapy varies depending on how extensive the goals of the client are, the problem(s) being treated, and how long they have been present.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
